November 11th is Veterans Day, an important holiday to be sure. But a holiday which young children have a difficult time understanding. Therefor we’ve compiled and created some great Veterans Day activities for kindergarten to help them learn about and appreciate this day.
What is Veterans Day?
Veterans Day is a holiday to honor veterans. It is a day to show our gratitude for their willingness to serve and protect our country. A veteran is someone who has served in the United States military. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th. This holiday was originally Armistice Day, which commemorated the end of World War I, when the Armistice Treaty was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In 1954, the name was officially changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans. In this article you will find some great Veterans Day activities for kindergarten.
Books About Veterans Day for Kids
Understanding what a veteran is can be tough, especially for children. A good way to teach young students about the people who serve in the military is to read them a book. Here are a few of our favorite books to read on this holiday. Click on the book to purchase from Amazon.
Hero Mom and Hero Dad by Melinda Hardin are great books to read on this day. These beautiful books are about what makes military mothers and fathers superheroes.
Veterans Heroes in our Neighborhood by Valerie Pfundstein is a fantastic book which shows students that veterans live all around us.
